The first word that comes to mind to describe Megève is "chic". And whilst there is no shortage of mega chalets, luxury hotels and michelin-starred restaurants, Megève has something to offer quite a broad range of skiers and snowboarders. Located just around the corner from Chamonix and Les Houches, Megève is linked with - among others - St Gervais and Combloux via the extensive Evasion Mont Blanc ski area which, with over 300km of pistes, is the 4th largest in France. It flies largely under the radar in comparison with the likes the 3 Valleys, Paradiski or Tignes/Val d'Isère, and that is largely due to its lower altitude. But while those high-altitude areas can feel a bit lunar and tough in poor weather, Megève enjoys miles and miles of tree-lined slopes, which makes for wonderful skiing on normally very quiet forested pistes, with superb views of Mont Blanc. This mid-mountain sleepiness is good news for kids and beginners as well, making Megève an excellent place to learn to ski.
