SkiBro’s 7-Day snow and weather forecast for the week beginning Dec 7th, 2019

Lots of precipitation coming riding the jetstream to some in to the Alps from the Northwest. To see exactly what’s happening in your favourite resort, check out our new weather widget.

Several weather fronts moving across northern Europe in the coming days bring regular spells of snow across the Alps, particularly on northward facing slopes, with some particularly large accumulations for the northern French Alps, the Swiss Alps and the western Austrian Alps.

The first band of rain moving across France and Germany Friday night moves into the northern French, Swiss, Bavarian, and Austrian Alps early Saturday, bringing snow here, before clearing through Saturday morning and afternoon, although a few scattered showers interspersed with bright or sunny weather may move through at times.

Drier weather develops through Saturday night and much of Sunday, but the next active band of rain sweeping across France and Germany Sunday morning moves into the French and Swiss alps by Sunday evening.

However, this band of rain and snow is expected to quickly weaken over the central and eastern Alps. Into the start of next week, low pressure moving into southern Scandinavia and the Baltic brings a strong and cold northerly flow across northern Europe.

Yet another band of persistent rain followed by blustery showers arrives on Monday and brings further significant accumulations of snow fall along the northern Alps.

The heaviest and most persistent snow is again expected across the French, Swiss, and Austrian Alps, with particularly large accumulations on northward and westward facing slopes.

Snow early on Tuesday clears east as high pressure building from the west and lying over the Alps Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday brings a brief spell of dry and settled weather with calm winds and clear spells across the entire Alps.

However, unsettled weather returns from the west Wednesday afternoon, with rain turning to snow once more from west to east across the Alps through Wednesday night, with some particularly heavy snow again for the French, Swiss, and Austrian Alps, with snow arriving into the Italian Alps Thursday.

Temperatures across most of the Alps will rise mid-week before plummeting at the week’s end to become extremely frigid as we move into next weekend. Thanks to Thomas Mould/Metraweather
